Welcome to Fried Green Tomatoes Catering


Fried Green Tomatoes is a catering company located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We specialize in wholesome meals which we cook from scratch in our West St. Paul kitchen. Our meals are cooked using only fresh local and wholesome ingredients without preservatives.

We pride ourselves on the wide range of choices available to our clients. It is important to us that you remain the “character” behind your event. We are therefore very flexible when it comes to being able to create exactly what you require, however quirky or simple it may be. No matter how large or small the event we can customize a menu for you from weddings to funerals, and corporate events and family gatherings.

Our menus are created using only the freshest quality seasonal local ingredients. Our food is designed on classical dishes with a modern influence and provides value to the client through quality food, presentation and service whether it’s for 10 or 300.

The mark of a great chef is the ability to taste a recipe or food combination in their head and Joanne can do just that.

“I can offer my clients a menu perfectly suited to what they like and what they can eat, something specially made for them according to their needs,” she says. “When someone has food allergies, for example, I love the challenge of creating a recipe for it.”

In 2010 Fried Green Tomatoes was born out of a passion for cooking and as a way to bring her family together with healthy food and hard work. All three of Joanne’s children work alongside her in the kitchen learning not only the importance of hard work, but as a way to teach her children the importance of healthy eating.

“Take the food to its simplest form without additives or preservatives is healthier for them,” she notes. “In addition, when you eat healthy, you are in a better mood and have more energy.

Joanne’s son Mikael loves to cook with his mother, and her youngest daughter Katrina is in charge of lunches. While Genevičve does not cook, she helps clean and maintain the kitchen. Gary, Joanne’s husband carries many hats. He does deliveries, helps at the banquets and does the maintenance of the kitchen. The whole family also takes care of the garden and takes part in the sales when the crop goes to market.

In addition to the family, Fried Green Tomatoes employs additional staff both in the kitchen and as servers for events.

The future looks bright for Fried Green Tomatoes. Over the next 2 years, Joanne would like to add a sales outlet to their location along with a space for cooking classes and a small restaurant.
